Easter Championships at Mombasa Sports Club Bowls Section

Bowling Fraternity in Kenya always looks forward to the Easter C h a m p i o n s h i p at Mombasa Sports Club Bowling Green. It’s a welcome break together with competitive bowling. This year it was held from 7th April to 10th April 2023. We had a record number of entries for both the Pairs and Fours Championship. 14 Pairs and 8 Fours. Though the entry was a little low but nevertheless we experienced quality bowling. Amongst the Bowlers, we had our representative to the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham UK. Cephas Kimwaki and Eunice Wambui. Not to forget our Gold Medalist in the Singles Championship at AST 2019 in Kenya Benson Kariuki. Kenya Bowling Federation Competition Secretary Andrew Jones was present to run the Championship and also participate. Registration commenced at 8am on Good Friday followed by the Opening Ceremony. First round of the Fours Championship started at 9.30am. Fours discipline means a team of 4 Bowlers each playing with 2 Woods. 8 teams were split into 2 leagues of 4 teams each. Each team had to play 3 games to decide the top 2 teams which proceed to the Semi Finals. Highlights of the Fours Championship were 2 teams. Team Cephas comprising of Skip Cephas Kimwaki with Jedida Maina, Vijay Bij and Alpesh Khimji. Team Athman comprising of Skip Athman Mohamed with Paul Chai, Seif and Arafat Hassan. Team Cephas and Team Athman reached the Finals. A very close game with a score of 17 vs 18 till the penultimate end. On the last end Skip Cephas Kimwaki took his team to victory. In the Pairs Championship, teams were split into 4 leagues. 8 Teams advanced to the Quarter Finals. And finally 4 teams into the Semi Finals. Team Cephas Team Benson Team Mathenge and team Hamada. It was a battle of the Titans in the Semi Finals. Team Benson and Team Hamada met in the Finals on 10th April 2023 at 1.30 Pm. After an interesting game, team Benson with Rispah Waithira lifted the Winners Trophy and Team Hamada with Eunice Wambui settled for the Silver medal. Prize Giving followed and all enjoyed the hospitality at Mombasa Sports Club Bowls Section. Good Bowling.
